Kosciuszko National Park contains the highest mountains in Australia, the famous Snowy River, six wilderness areas, and its alpine and subalpine areas contain plant species found nowhere else in the world. You’ll need to purchase a national park entry permit from the entry station or at the Visitor Centre in Jindabyne.

The journey over the mountain range offers overwhelming natural beauty and an extensive array of experiences. The road is fully sealed, though winding, so heed all safety signs and drive to the conditions.

The village of Thredbo, a place of cobble malls, lodges, fascinating street sculptures and coffee shops, is vibrant in all seasons. Take the chairlift from the village up 1930 metres above sea level where it’s a gentle walk to the Kosciuszko lookout.

Thredbo is the closest access point for hiking to the top of Mt Kosciuszko, a 13km round trip beginning with a chairlift ride from the Village. Cascade Trackhead is a starting point for walks into the Pilot Wilderness and Cascades Hut.

Thredbo’s famous music festivals take off in the new year, and the Cannonball Run attracts many mountain bikers during the summer.

It doesn’t matter whether you wake up in a luxury hotel, a farm stay ranch, or swing open the flaps of your tent in a camping ground - the view you take in as you stretch will always be the mountains!
